Texas / Northeastern Mexico
This cross-border region includes the cities of Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Laredo, McAllen, Harlingen, Brownsville, Matamoros, Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo, Saltillo and Monterrey. The combined population in this region exceeds 10 million people.
This area is a state-of-the-industry multimodal logistics and transportation hub. The new USMCA trade pact that was executed on July 1, 2020 supports an established multimodal logistics corridor between the USA and Mexico and creates momentum for Closeshoring™. The Port of Brownsville is the closest US port to Mexico. This region is served by two additional major US ports: The Port of Corpus Christi and Port Houston and in Mexico, by the Port of Altamira. Five national Class I railroads serve this region: Union Pacific, BNSF, Kansas City Southern, Kansas City Southern de Mexico, and Ferromex. This area has a 377 kilometer border with South Texas and every day 40% of the commerce between Mexico and the USA flows through this region, including 17,000 trucks per day. Most major trucking and logistics companies and many medium and small transportation companies also provide service to this region. International and domestic air cargo services are also available from multiple airports.
This region boasts a skilled workforce, attractive communities, excellent educational systems and universities, and an affordable cost of living. South Texas and Northeastern Mexico is home to major industrial companies involved in automotive, aerospace, electronics, high technology, energy, transportation, medical products, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, steel and other metals, among many more. This area is a robust international industrial and commercial hub that benefits from extensive cultural and economic ties between the two countries.
USA (El Paso, TX & Santa Teresa, NM) Cross-Border With Mexico (San Jeronimo Cd Juarez)
This cross-border region includes the El Paso, TX and Santa Teresa, NM metropolitan areas and immediately across the border, the San Jeronimo – Cd Juarez areas in Mexico. It is a unique, growing location that serves as a robust international manufacturing, logistics and commerce hub.
In 2019, Mexico surpassed China as the United States’ top trading partner, with $614.5 billion in total trade (Source: U.S.-Mexico Economic Relations: Trends, Issues, and Implications June 25, 2020).
The San Jeronimo – Santa Teresa cross-border Port of Entry is the only USA-Mexico border crossing that doesn’t involve a bridge, making it the best location for heavy and oversized cargo, such as wind turbine blades and industrial equipment. The Santa Teresa Port of Entry also has some of quickest crossing times along the border.
Companies operating in this region include Foxconn, FedEx, Union Pacific, BNSF, Tecma Group, Helen of Troy, RR Donnelley, Mount Franklin Foods, Grupo Mexico, Datamark, Bay Valley Foods, Admiral Cable, MCS, Valley Cold Storage, Vitesco, and many more.
Located within this region and in a Binational Foreign Trade Zone on the USA-Mexico border, San Jeronimo is a privately-owned 47,000 acre master-planned development located in Mexico, less than 1,000 feet from the border crossing. San Jeronimo is an attractive property for Closeshoring™ and it’s home to a large Foxconn manufacturing facility, RR Donnelley and Mount Franklin Foods. Designed using a new urbanism model that incorporates smart growth principals and sustainability, San Jeronimo is expected to become one of the most modern and robust mixed-use developments in Mexico.
